THE FRONT LINE FOUNDATION
Minnesota Brothers and Sisters, in an effort to honor their amazing First Responders through the combined efforts of both networks, The Front Line Foundation has partnered with OATH for this year’s OATH Memorial Walk with its own bike ride.
The OATH Memorial Walk began in 2016 when Gary Bartels, the OATH Founder and Executive Director, decided to walk from Houston, Texas to his hometown of Kountze, Texas to honor the Texans who fought and died in Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn. Gary walked 150.25 miles in 4 days, averaging 37.5 miles a day ! Based on the outpouring of support and encouragement OATH received for that first Memorial Walk, Gary said he knew that this would be an annual event. The following year, the OATH Walking Team grew with more members, and since 2016, the Team has walked close to 2,000 miles ! For the entire duration of the walk, the Team wears a rucksack which carries a notebook containing a photo of each of those fallen Heroes, as well as a set of dogtags for each. The memory and the legacy of these Heroes are with the Team every step of the way !
Minnesota will be made proud as Mike and Lora Strauss, both retired police officers in Minneapolis, Minnesota, will each bike 15 miles each day for 15 days during the month of May, some 450 miles, while honoring the 12 Minnesota First Responders who either died while serving their communities ‘In The Line of Duty’ or lost their lives or were seriously injured in activities ‘Beyond the Call of Duty’ during 2019 and through 2020 to date. Photos of these Heroes will be carried by Mike and Lora each day while they do this bike ride in their honor.
In partnering with The Front Line Foundation, OATH is excited to not only gain more awareness for these events, but to honor our respective Heroes. Your donation, no matter how small, allows both OATH and The Front Line Foundation to bridge that gap of support and help folks in need. Whether it’s $5, $10 or $100, each and every dollar matters as we directly impact Heroes on your behalf!
