I would like to officially introduce myself to the OATH Family.  My name is MAJ Deb Oldfield, and I am the National Director of the OATH Triathlon Team.  I enlisted in the Army in 1997 as a Medical Lab Tech after being denied entry to the United States Military Academy at West Point.  I reapplied while in Basic Training and AIT and was accepted, reporting in 1998 and graduating in 2002 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry and Life Science.  I was commissioned as a Military Police Officer and served as an MP at Joint Base Lewis-McChord from 2002-2007 with two tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004 and 2006.  In 2007, I changed gears and attended the Interservice Physician Assistant Program and became a PA after schooling at Ft. Sam Houston and Ft. Bliss, TX.  I served at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky in the 159th Combat Aviation Brigade with one tour to Afghanistan, was reassigned to Guantanamo Bay for 2.5 years, and I am currently serving as the 7th Infantry Division Senior PA at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

I met my husband, Shayne, at Yakima Training Center in Eastern Washington, in 2003.  We married in 2005, and we have two amazing children together.

With little else to do at Guantanamo Bay, I started competing in triathlon in 2015 at the invitation of a friend. With a lot of doubt, I completed my first sprint tri that spring and was hooked.  I competed in two sprint and two Olympic distance events each year while assigned to Guantanamo Bay.  Upon returning to CONUS, I competed in the Black Diamond Sprint Triathlon in Enumclaw, WA, where I qualified for the 2018 USA Triathlon Olympic Distance National Championships, and I completed that race in August, 2018 in Cleveland, OH.

It has been a dream of mine to teach my fellow Veterans the awesome sport of triathlon, and with the support of the OATH Family and their amazing supporters, this dream is becoming a reality.  If you are a Veteran and are interested in learning triathlon from the ground up, please feel free to contact me.
